Pennsylvania (Map J)
Deans Gap & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From Grier Point on PA 850, east of Shermans Dale, or west of Marysville, take Mountain Road south for 1.2mi to a Game Commission parking lot. Follow the jeep road 1.2mi to Deans Gap; or from PA 34 at Sterretts Gap take Mountain Road northeast to Deans Gap and follow the jeep road 1.2mi to Deans Gap.
PA 231 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Located on Elk Hill Road just west of PA 231 and 0.7mi south of Colonel Denning State Park.
PA 641 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Very limited parking along PA 641.
Pennsylvania (Map K)
PA 75 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Limited parking along the shoulder.
Cowans Gap State Park
Day parking available; check with park office for overnight parking.
US 30 at Tuscarora Summit
Take Aughwick Road north of US 30 and park to the east of Aughwick Road in designated areas in Buchanan State Forest.
PA 16 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Park on south side of the highway west of the trail crossing.
Alice Trailhead & PA 16
Limited parking on the west side of PA 456 just south of PA 16.
Hells Hill Trailhead near PA 456
Take Ward Drive about 1.0mi north of PA 456 to the state game lands parking lot.
Yellow/Blue-Blazed Trailhead near PA 456
About two miles north of Sylvan, take a dirt road 0.8mi west of PA 456 to the state game lands parking lot.
Furnace Road & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Parking available on both sides of Furnace Road about 0.7mi. north of PA 456.
Maryland (Map K)
Indian Springs Wildlife Management Area
There are several small parking areas along Kuhn Ridge Road.
C&O Canal & Tuscarora Trail East intersection
Take paved road from US 40 at the west end of the Licking Creek Bridge.
C&O Canal & Tuscarora Trail West intersection
Parking available at Little Tonoloway Park at west end of Hancock off MD 144.
West Virginia (Map L)
Spruce Pine Hollow Park
Parking is located 14mi west of Interstate 81 beside WV 9. From the Spruce Pine Hollow parking area, take the white-blazed Spruce Pine Hollow Trail 0.10mi to Tuscarora Trail at the Meadow Branch trail-crossing site.
Whites Gap & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From I-81, take WV 9 west 16.2 mi to WV 8 at Stohrs Crossroads. Turn left (south) on WV 8 and go 3mi to WV 8/1. Turn left on WV 8/1 and go 1.9mi to WV 8/8. Turn left (east) on WV 8/8 and go 0.8mi to where WV 8/8 turns to the right. Turn left off WV 8/8 and follow the dirt road to the parking area in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area. Hike up the road to the Tuscarora Trail at Whites Gap.
Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area (SCWMA) Lower & Upper Campgrounds
From I-81, take WV 9 west 6 mi to WV 7 (Tomahawk Road). Turn left (south) and go 7.3mi to WV 7/9 (Meadows Road south of Jones Spring). Turn right (west) on WV 7/9 and go 6mi, passing the SCWMA office, to the registration point. Turn right and go 1.8mi; either park near the Lower Campground or turn left and park at the gate past the Upper Campground.
High Rock & Millrace Trailhead
Parking is available in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area at the trailhead for the High Rock and Millrace trails. From I-81 (Inwood exit), take WV 51 west to WV 45. Go west on WV 45 to Glengary; continue on WV 45 for 2.5mi after Glengary until the road turns sharply south at the intersection of Packhorse Historic Road. Follow Packhorse Historic Road up the hill to the top, where white blazes will be visible on the right side of the road. Follow the white blazes on the dirt road to the wildlife area parking lot. Follow either the yellow blazed Millrace Trail 1.4mi to the Tuscarora Trail on Shockeys Knob or the white blazed High Rock Trail 2.3mi to Tuscarora Trail just south of High Rock.
Virginia (Map L)
Siler & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Limited parking is available along shoulders of the road at the intersection of VA 600 and VA 690. Check with the store owner before parking in the small store parking lot.
Gainesboro
The Tuscarora Trail passes through the village of Gainesboro, located south of US 522. There is some shoulder parking available along the village roads.
Gore
Follow white-blazed trail 1.0 mile south to intersection with Tuscarora Trail. Parking is available along VA 751 opposite the Gore Grocery Store.
Howze Campsite Trailhead
Limited parking is available at the intersection of Sinking Spring Lane (VA 853), 0.6mi south of Gore, where the Tuscarora Trail enters the woods.
Biby Wilderness Trailhead
The Biby Wilderness Trail provides access to the Tuscarora Trail. Parking is available at the Biby Wilderness Trailhead, which is located at the intersection of the Timber Ridge Trail and the Rockwood Trail of the Great North Mountain Wilderness Area Subdivision. From US Route 50, take either VA 600 or VA 614 south to the entrance of the Shawnee Land subdivision. Turn west (right) off VA 600 and drive into Shawnee Land until you reach a “T” intersection. Turn left on Tomahawk Trail road and ascend Great North Mountain. At the intersection with Wolf Spring Trail road, turn sharp left and follow Wolf Spring Trail to the top of the ridge. At the intersection with Timber Ridge Trail, turn left and follow the road until you reach the next intersection, which will be Rockwood Trail road.
West Virginia (Map L)
Loman Branch & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From US 50 vicinity of Gore, turn left (south) on VA 259 (Carpers Pike) and go 7.5mi WV 23/3 (Back Creek Road). Turn left 0.3mi and pass Shiloh Church. Turn left at the corner at the cemetery. Go 0.65mi to limited parking along the side of the road in vicinity of where the Tuscarora Trail follows the blacktop road to the east and the gravel road to the west.
West Virginia (Map F)
Hawk Recreation Area (Jefferson & George Washington National Forest)
From I-81 near Strasburg, VA, go west on VA 55 for 15mi. Turn right at the Hawk Recreation Area sign (about a mile downhill from top of the mountain). Go 3mi and turn left. Go 0.6mi, turn right, then turn left into the picnic area parking lot. The Tuscarora Trail is between the picnic area and the parking lot-it is visible at the junction of the two roads just before the picnic area parking lot.
VA 55 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From I-81 near Strasburg, VA, go west on VA 55 for 15mi. Some parking is available along the left side of the road just before crossing the Tuscarora Trail at the top of the mountain.
Waites Run & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From I-81 near Strasburg, VA, go west on VA 55 for 20miles toward Wardensville, WV. Turn left on WV 5/1 (Waites Run Road) at the sign for Glen Hawkins Community Park (just before the sign for the junction of WV 259). Follow WV 5/1 for 0.55mi and turn left. WV 5/1 (Waites Run Road) joins North Mountain Road for a short distance and then turns right. Follow Waites Run Road for 5.2mi. Seventy yards after crossing Waites Run for the third time, watch for the blue trail blazes on a forest road to the left. Park on the right side of the road.
Cedar Creek & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From I-81 (exit 291, Toms Brook), take VA 651 (Mt. Olive Road) 1.4mi northwest to VA 623 (Back Road). Turn left on VA 623 and go 4.2mi to VA 600 (Zepp Road). Turn right on Zepp Road and go 4.3mi over Fetzer Gap “T” intersection at bottom of hill. Turn left onto Route 603 (Van Buren Road). Follow 603 2.7mi to Forest Service gate. Park near the gate or at the campsite to left. Walk past gate 0.4mi to intersection of Tuscarora Trail and Rte 603.
Virginia (Map G)
Fetzer Gap & Tuscarora Trail intersection
Limited parking. From I-81 (exit 291, Toms Brook), take VA 651 (Mt. Olive Road) 1.4mi northwest to VA 623 (Back Road). Turn left on VA 623 and go 4.2mi to VA 600 (Zepp Road). Go right on VA 600 for 2.6mi to Fetzer Gap.
Shenandoah County Park
From I-81 (exit 291, Toms Brook), turn left (east) on VA 651. Go 1.0mi and turn right on US 11. Go 1.8mi on VA 651 and turn left into Shenandoah County Park. The Tuscarora Trail is on the south side of the park beyond the ball field.
Elizabeth Furnace Picnic Area
From I-66 (exit 6, Front Royal), go south on US 340 toward Front Royal. After crossing the Shenandoah River North Fork, turn right (west) on VA 55 and go 5.5mi to Waterlick. At VA 678 (Fort Valley Road), turn left (south) and go 4.3mi to the Elizabeth Furnace Area on your left. Take a left onto the park road, noting the blue blazes for the Tuscarora Trail as you cross the bridge over Passage Creek, and park in the picnic area. Note the times when the picnic area gate is locked.
Veach Gap Trailhead
From I-66 (exit 6, Front Royal) go south on US 340 toward Front Royal. After crossing the Shenandoah River North Fork, turn right (west) on VA 55 and go 5.5mi to Waterlick. At VA 678 (Fort Valley Road), turn left (south) and go 10mi to VA 774. At VA 774, turn left (northeast) and go 0.7mi to the Veach Gap Trailhead. Park and hike on the Veach Gap Trail (a jeep road) to the left (east) and follow it for about 1.0mi to the Tuscarora Trail along Mill Run.
Shenandoah River & Tuscarora Trail intersection
From Front Royal, go south on US 340 for 10mi to VA 613 in Bentonville. Turn right, (NW) on VA 613 and go 0.7mi to the Shenandoah River, noting the blue blazes of the Tuscarora Trail as you approach the Shenandoah River. Park on the north side (far west side) of the river at Bentonville Landing.
US 340 & Tuscarora Trail intersection
There is very limited parking available along the shoulders of US 340 in the vicinity of the Tuscarora Trail.
Virginia (Map 9)
Tuscarora & Appalachian Trail intersection
Take Skyline Drive until you reach the Hogback Parking area at mile 21.1. The Appalachian Trail joins the Hogback Parking Area. Hike south on the AT for 0.4 mi to reach the intersection of the Tuscarora Trail.
