PATC Policy

Upon acquiring land for the Tuscarora Trail corridor, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club will return that land to as natural a state as possible and incidentally acquired structures will be removed unless a plan has been approved for utilizing the structure for hiker or trail crew use. If a dam is acquired within Trail corridor lands, the policy of this Club is to deactivate it whenever and wherever possible. If this is not possible, the Club will work with local authorities to ensure the structural soundness and safety of the dam.

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Existing and proposed dams are regulated by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources—Bureau of Dams and Waterway Management and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Permits may be required from both agencies when any work on dams is proposed.
