In general, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club does not oppose responsible timber management of forest resources so long as the harvesting of timber protects the Trail, its values, and its environs.
Where residual timber rights are retained on lands conveyed to the Club, no timber should be cut within 200 feet of the actual Tuscarora Trail footpath.
Where the Tuscarora Trail traverses land owned by state forest or wildlife management agencies, proposed timber cuts that are adjacent to or that directly affect the Trail should be coordinated with PATC.
The Bureau allows timber harvests on sections of its land, and it is not in a position to relocate the Trail if such a relocation conflicts with an existing timber contract.
Timber harvesting is currently done for safety or salvage purposes or to improve wildlife habitat.
